About Us

Formerly The Aviaries of John Meade, Tampa Bay Parrots is a 40 year old bird care facility run by second generation care takers, John (jr) and Jenna Meade.

Our facility was created by John Meade and his wife Linda Meade. He was a general contractor who put his carpentry talent to work building impressive aviaries, and she was the accountant with the drive to turn their passion into a reputable facility. Together they created an incredible legacy. Today the facility is owned and operated by their kids, John and Jenna.  We are wildly passionate about improving the livelihoods of parrots species everywhere, in our homes and in their natural habitats. We want people to have a deeper and broader understanding of what it means to be an excellent bird caregiver. We are leading by example which we hope impresses upon others the level of care required to keep a happy, healthy parrot. Our facility is currently undergoing a long overdue facelift to create a more interactive environment for those who wish to work with and learn more about caring for parrots.

What We Do

Our facility began nearly 40 years ago as a private hobby collection and grew into a fairly large scale breeding facility. Today, we are home to some breeding pairs of birds however many of our parrots are aging out of the breeding season of their lives, and will remain with us for the remainder of their years. While we do not specifically operate as a “rescue” or “sanctuary” we help lots of people and families rehome and adopt older birds that are suitable for a home environment. Our goal is to help prospective birds owners manage their own expectations and provide them with the knowledge to be excellent caregivers to their future bird companions. Like many types of pets, families often take a bird in without fully understanding how much responsibility caring for an animal is. Often times birds end up getting passed from home to home due to a lack of knowledge and understanding of the birds needs. We hope that through our work, we can create a deeper understanding and appreciation for parrot care. We never clip our birds wings. We believe that we cannot expect our birds to simply accommodate to our lifestyle, on the contrary caring for birds usually means that we must make adjustments in our own lifestyles to accommodate their well-being.  We would love to help you understand how, just ask.
